While saving a spreadsheet document I pressed the cancel key and now the system has crashed. I am not able to reset or 'escape' . New to Apple iMac, in the PC I could reset by clicking: "alt+cntrl+delete keys. ANy suggestions please?

If the system crashed, you'd get something as described in About kernel panics. Start there and report back with the salient details, such as which spreadsheet app. We're not clairvoyant.
