How do I change IP address of MacBook?  It will not connect to my Internet and my provider says IP address is not correct. All other Mac devices are connected with a different ip address. Provider says sometimes an update thows off the IP address? Help?

google yields several answers on how to accomplish this.  Copy and paste the first sentence and search.

    From the menu bar, select

    System Preferences Network Advanced TCP/IP

What values are shown for the following?

    • Configure IPv4
    • IPv4 Address
    • Subnet Mask
    • Router

    Configure :  using dhcp

    Ip: 169.254.4.124

    Subnet: 255.255.0.0

    Router: blank

I have googled- I have turned off and deleted airport, turned dhcp off and then added and turned everything back on with no success.  Any of the searches say this is caused by an apple update? Or quirk?

No luck so far.  I have never had this problem in 3 years with this Mac. Any tips welcome!

Wi-Fi (or AirPort) should be at the top of the connection list in the preference pane. Is it? Is Wi-Fi (or AirPort) turned on?
