Contacts on my mac?

I am so consufed about syncing today. Can someone please explain it (with no fluff) to me again? The fluff in the help sestion does not answer my question - or I am beyond frustrated after entering and re-entering in lost info all day.

Does sync actually do what it should - logically?

Make my Iphone AND my mac match?

Explination:

1 contact in my phone

1 contact on my mac

= When synced - 2 contacts on my phone AND mac?

When info is put into my mac - when synced does it update my phone?

ok - so why is it not doing that then after sync?

Example:

-Item put in my Ical on my phone does not appear on my Ical on mac

-Phonenumbers put in exsisting contacts on my phone do not appear on mac

-Addresses updated on contacts on mac do not appear on phone

-Group contacts do not match (4 groups on my phone and 7 on my mac)

etc etc

I must have a setting horribly wrong.

I thought it did this because that's why I was so overjoyed after ditching my bberry years ago.

Note: since starting to use icoud this is when the insanity happened. I have since stopped icloud backup on my phone and do it manually insetad.
