my macbook pro OS Lion will not turn on at all

So, this is the first time that I have ever had more than a minor snafu with my macbook pro. I had safari open and was browsing. I clicked on something to go to another page, your standard internet browsing, nothing sketchy I might add. Anyway, it stayed on the same page for a few minutes. I decided to command + Q

to quit the application because I was annoyed. That's when I noticed I could move my mouse around on the screen, but if I tried to X the window closed or click anything, nothing was happening. After a few minutes, I decided to just turn off the computer by holding the power button (something I have only done once or twice in the two years I've had it, so no over-abuse). Now, it will not turn back on. If I plug in the charger, that seems to be in order, but I did notice that on the front edge where those two little slits are, the tiny one on the left is solid white, as opposed to when it is on, the wider one on the right usually flashes very slowly (If you have ever observed this). Anyway, it just won't turn back on and I don't see why. Suggestions, please? Thank you so much.
