Transferring backup from Lacie

How do I transfer a back up back from my Lacie hard disc drive back to my computer? I thought I just go the User folder on the lacie back up dics and drag and drop it in to the Hard disc drive, but that does not seems to work.

Should I be using time machine on my Mac to back up to the Lacie and if so would you be kind enought to give me instruction on how to do this?
