Can I use the ipad 2 directly on a direct power source?

Due to everyday use my ipad battery degrades everytime. And it cannot supply my needs anymore. Can I use it, plugged in a socket using the charger, on a direct power source? Will it harm the battery?

iPad 2, iOS 5.1.1

I am using my iPad right now while it is plugged in. I use my iPad every day as well - all day long at work, but I still get 9-10 hours out of a full charge every day.

If your battery will no longer hold a sufficient charge, you can have the battery replaced.

iPad Owners

Your one-year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your coverage to two years from the date of your iPad purchase with the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPad. During the plan’s coverage period, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers abattery replacement for $99, plus $6.95 shipping, subject to local tax. Apple disposes of your battery in an environmentally friendly manner.

How many hours are you getting out of a full charge on average? I see you have the iPad2. Is it still under warranty?
