FetchRequest Dictionary variables

Can you message an object to bring the value of a variable into the user info dictionary, or do you have to get the value for a Fetch Request user info dictionary variable from within the same model as the Fetch Request Template?

SO I collapsed the model better, and I'm getting a far better idea of how to use CoreData. But this question I still have, (though it seems I will have to run a test to find the answer).

In the user info dictionary for Fetch Request Templates, the 'key' field corresponds to the template's model, or to the model instance's context? Or to either?

The value is then the $ variable as it appears in the predicate, right?
