After using various retouch tools, Aperture often returns to the original image and I can't get my retouched image back....any ideas?

After using various retouch tools on an image, Aperture often (but not always) spontaneously returns to the orginal image and I have to start all over again.....this seems to happen most often after I use the clone tool. Is this a new bug or what? It just started happening a few weeks ago.
