Q: Late 2011 macbook and OS X ML

my macbook has been freezing up alot lately. so i wiped it clean and started fresh. It seems that that only made it worse. Safari locks up, the system has generally become extremely slow and sometimes completly unresponsive. When i purcahsed the laptop in mid 2012 it had Lion installed and i was able to get the free ML upgrade should i just roll the system back to Lion.

I only really run 3 programs on this macbook. Photoshop, Daz3d and Cinema4d.

I have the memory maxed out at 8gb

it is a 2.4 i7

Airport extreme, Mac OS X (10.7.2), Plex, media center setup

    Try doing some basic maintenance.

Run Disk Utility/Repair Permissions. Repeat until it shows no repairs were made. Clearing the log in between runs can make the process less confusing.  Also see: Disk Utility Repair Permissions You Can Safely Ignore

    Reset NVRAM/PRAM

    Reset SMC

First off, your system can handle up to 16GB RAM.  I know, because I have basically the same system (except I have the 16GB RAM).

You don't mention anything about your system's HD.  What capacity, spindle speed, etc. drive do you have?  How much free space do you have on your drive?  I ask these questions because my sysem came with a stock 5400 RPM drive which I prompty replaced with a 7200 RPM drive, and my system seems to work fine for me.  I do do that much heavy photo/video editing, but when I do, it seems to work well enough.  YOu may want to do some drive clean-up if your drive is fairly full, as that could be contributing to slower performance as well.
