Why does my MacBook 13" turn off after an hour or so of use? Overheating?
And how can I fix it frugally?

First, try an SMC reset.
If that doesn't do it, run the Apple hardware testto see if there are any sensor issues.
If that is clean, use iStat Pro to monitor your system temperatures. Also note when you get near the hour mark if any application is hogging the CPU, by viewing the Activity Monitor.
Assume you're running on wall socket power, so a failing battery isn't a consideration.
