Final Cut Pro X will not import ANYTHING from a supported camera

I'm fairly new to FCPX, but following the instructions perfectly, I created a new event, clicked on import from camera and got a window of the playing video. I clicked import, but nothing ever imports. The camera is supported (Sony PD170) but absolutely NOTHING ever imports. What's going on? Am I missing something?
