iOS 6.1 Battery Drain Problem

I have noticed an increased amount of draining from my iPhone 4, ever since the new iOS 6.1 was released yesterday morning. I have only used minor iMessaging and my battery has seemed to drop a percentage every two minutes or so just in standby. It is sad to say that the Battery Bugs have not been removed and this problem needs to be resolved. Who else is experiencing drainage?

Yes RJV, I'm pretty sure it is the same issue as AOL is reporting with Exchange/ios 6.1. Also there was a link someone posted earlier from zdnet reporting that some IT departments were blocking some (or all?) ios 6.1 users from their servers until this gets fixed. That hasn't happened yet at my company, but could be coming soon.

I'm still puzzled why I am seeing the problem, and my buddy at work who also has an iphone 5 with the same setup as mine does not. I will need to look closer at his phone next week using the SysStatsLite app to see if he has the same problem, but just didn't notice it. Now that I know what to look for it is pretty easy. If the CPU usage is constantly up around 20% when no apps should be running, then it is a pretty good indication. If you then disable the calendar in the Exchange App, and the CPU usage drops down to something low - around 3-5% or so, with occasional spikes up to 20%, then that is a smoking gun that Exchange calendar is the culprit.

It should be noted that some other mail/calendar services use Exchange in the background, so it may not be obvious to the end user if Exchange is being used. Try disabling other calendars to see if it has the same effect.

Hopefully there will be a fix soon. I'm sure with this uproar people are working on it. Meanwhile, I'm going to check out the 6.1.1 beta, and may also pay a visit to the Apple store techs again. Two "fixes" seemed to work for me, but only temporarily (1day and 2 days, respectively). I have Applecare, and the Apple techs hinted that they might be willing to just replace my phone. I may take them up on it.

Me too! big battery drain after upgraded to iOS 6.1, iPhone 4 turned it off in 4 hours, from 100% battery.

My persoanl and corporate mainboxes are all Exchange, after upgraded, I kept receiving the SAME Calendar notifiation, no matter what I did, accepted it or declined it, it just came in like no end. so I ignored that invite after more than 10 times accept/decline, and result is, phone powered off in 4 hours.

This is ridiculous, the same problem happened 2 times in 2 major versions.

Looks like ios 6.1.1 beta is for developers only at this point, unless I want to take "adventureous" actions. The documentation implies it is not targetted at this problem, anyway. So I guess next stop for me is back at the Apple Store.

Another data point, my internet connection at home has been working great since turning off the Exchange calendar. My Roku box, too. Under settings->mail,contacts,calendars->accounts, in my exchange account, I turned calendars off. It's a big hammer, but effective so far. Proves that this is the source of my particular problem. Of course, others may have different problems.

If a proper fix doesn't come from Apple soon, and/or the techs at the Apple store can't fix it, I may consider just turning off push notification, and use fetch. That worked fairly well, but still felt like I was burning more battery than I should have. But, I do need a working calendar on my phone.

I've been using the iPad 2 for going on three years. The battery life was becoming an issue late last year. After learning to close apps I'm not using this battery has been doing fine. With iOS 6.1 the battery actually seems to be lasting longer. Two recommendations:

1) double click the power button and close apps you are not currently using. Even mail can be closed without losing an open email you've not yet sent. Only Safari stays open on my tablet to stay logged on to other sites my user name is saved on. Closing Safari will log you off and shed any saved user/screen names.

2) Massive Dynamic and others are making cases with extra batteries built in. There are even purses, if you're inclined to use one, with batteries built in to eliminate battery life being an issue.

Just by closing most unused apps should solve any difficulties you might be having. iOS 6.1 is by far the bet operating system I have ever been fortunate enough to have available. (No, I do not represent Apple, I'm just an avid user of the superior products produced by them).

Just checking in folks, seems like my ip5 got the plague too. Awesome battery life before update , Now there seems to be a pretty big drain . I'm not tripping though I'm sure they'll get it worked out- I have the exchange on my ip5 I'll try that , the AT&T guy set it up for me so hopefully I don't lose my google contacts, ill do a back up. Got to have that battery! Still love the hardware and IOS

Call tech support or go in to a store. I thought my battery was going dead with iOS 6.0.1 until they showed me my brightness was left at the highest setting and I never closed apps in the tray. I kid you not, on iPad 2 iOS seems to use less power. Don't use the iPhone 5, but my kids do. They haven't encountered any battery problems with their new iPhone 5s. I felt like an idiot when tech support showed me those things. It resolved all of my problems. If you are out of warranty one of the techies in the store might point out a simple issue you've got set to drain the battery.

Do you get a lot of push notifications? That saps power too. Sorry I couldn't help more....

Mako09, I doubt the 2nd generation of the Ipad is 3 years old. Don't you think it is kind of dumb to act as Apple's protege, having in mind how many people are experiencing problems with the latest update? Seems like their technology used to be, as you say, superior. I do care only for the proper functioning of my devices. I guess a cheaper and plastic samsung or an htc will do a better job.
