iOS 6.1 Battery Drain Problem

Guys! With the update it is working for me! Yesterday with 6.1 my phone didn't even stayed for 13 hrs. Today with 6.1.1 it have more than 40% (43% to be accurate). The new update works. Still have iCloud and Exchange with push On!

I've updated to 6.1.1 and went back to normal, battery use and phone temperature.

I have a 4S

Apple should test before releasing, how much this will cost to them?

What is your battery life... How much hours?

For me...iPhone 4S:

Went from about 16 percent per hour in iOS 6.1...

To 2 or 3 percent per hour in 6.1.1...

For me, it worked!

with use or in stand by mode ?

The update is to fix the cellular problem and improve the reliability! In case if your phone battery drain because of the network this will solves. If it caused by the exchange issue I don't think so the update will fix this!

I am pretty sure my issue caused by the network connectivity! Since I tried removing the exchange and added, it didn't work for me!

Now need to wait for apple to another update!

I had the battery drain issue since I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1 last week.

I upgraded to iOS 6.1.1 yesterday, unfortunately the problem is not fixed at all.
The battery is draining fast and the phone is hot.

Apple, we need a fix or a workaround!!!

How does this affect me?

Microsoft has identified that the recently released Apple iOS update version 6.1 could degrade performance and availability of email services. Technical details of these findings are published at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2814847

What do I need to do?

- Do not create, accept, decline or modify calendar items on your iOS based devices. Use your device only for viewing your calendar.

- If you have not already upgraded, do not apply the 6.1 update to your iOS device.

(I would add to this that if you have already triggered the problem by accepting a calendar invite, etc,, you should delete your Exchange acccount and recreate it in order to stop the looping. This is mentioned in the Microsoft link, but should be emphasized.)

Mostly standby - but I pick up my phone and read between 10 and 20 emails per hour during the day. This has been the mode of operation for me this morning. I have had my phone in standby / reading e-mails mode since 7 o'clock this morning. It is now 11 o'clock and I am at 90 percent. I took the phone off the charger at 6:45 o'clock this morning. So...4 hours and 15 minutes with about 100 e-mails read, I have only used 10 percent.

Mail Settings for ALL accounts (including EXCHANGE): FETCH 15 (I figure if a person can't wait 15 minutes for me to get the e-mail, then they should pick up the phone and CALL me! So I don't use PUSH.)

Location Services: ON (select apps - no memory hogs like FourSquare)

Notifications: 25 Apps with various levels of "notification." Most of my notifications are e-mail.

Brightness set at about 33%

Wifi ON and Connected.

4G: Averaging 3-4 bars of power.

Sounds OFF

iCloud: EVERYTHING ON

I used about 1 percent of the battery while I was checking the settings for this e-mail. I am now at 89 percent.

Upgraded to 6.1.1.

Issues with Exchange calendar still exist. Even for a deleted invite (via Outlook), Iphone continues to push the invite onto exchange server (about every 10 sec).

Battery drain is especially high with 3g enabled.

applied the following changes:

- deactivated 3G

- deactivated push (fetch 15 min instead)

- no calendar activity via iphone

- apps terminated after usage

Battery lasts through a busy day now, but not really appropriate for a premium price business phone to deactivate its features. Waiting for 6.1.2 to improve or a free downgrade ;-)

You can't tell me that's normal. Its been like that everyday since.

Oh, and if you are wondering…

iPhone 5 on EE. Restored to new. No third-party apps reinstalled. No email accounts added. Bluetooth off. Siri off. Phone was left on my bedside table all day. Checked up on it every hour or so just to see how it was fairing. No happy.

Once you trigger the problem by create, decline, accept, or modify a calendar entry, you will need to delete your Exchange account and recreate it to break the looping.

After you do this, only use your phone to view your calendar, and do not do any of the above actions or you will cause it to start looping again. This is just a workaround until Apple & Microsoft fix the problem, but otherwise you will burn extra battery life on your phone, and cause excess network traffic.

Safari bookmark sync via iCloud messed my phone since iOS6. Looped sync burned thru my battery quickly. I used System Activity Monitor to see what was happening. I turned off several features and didn't use Facebook, Passport etc. The battery usage returned to near normal but I couldn't delete or change Safari bookmarks. This morning, I followed Adam Engst's approach to a clean restore (http://tidbits.com/article/13303). So far....it has worked! I let iTunes sync my Calendar, Contacts but not Safari bookmarks. In the meantime, I deleted a lot of old bookmarks off my iMac so when sync occured thru iCloud, perhaps the corrupted ones weren't transferred.

I have never used Exchange email.

Thanks for posting that article link. I have just performed a DFU reboot on my iPhone. Fingers crossed it has wiped any gremlins off my phone.

Phone is now charging. I shall monitor it from 100% down and post the results.
