Q: iOS 6.1 Battery Drain Problem

Send a shot of usage as well...

I have noticed a faster drain, 40% lost on 22hours standby, 2 hrs usage (approx). (10min talk time)

That means, about 20-30% of rated battery, on a 1yr old phone, argh, not again... I just want a less powerful ios, longer battery...

I will gather usage info today and post it. I just took my phone off of an all night charge, so we'll see what happens between now and when the battery dies in a few hours...

It is my understanding that this thread was started for people who are experiencing bad battery performance since installing iOS 6.1. We are all working together to find a solution.

For those people who do not have battery problems, why are you posting on this discussion? Do you have a suggested solution for us? We all would like our batteries to preform as wonderfully as yours!

I have tried every suggestion in this 10 page discussion and nothing has worked for me.

I spent quiet a bit of time on the phone with Apple tech support and they admitted this is a new wide-spread problem, but had no suggestion for me other than send my phone in for service (though the tech guy admitted he doubts it is a hardware issue since it began with the 6.1 update). He suggested I keep an eye out for another software update to fix the problem. This is Apple telling me this...

Noticed it too with 4S. tried already to drain it to shutdown and charged it fully. once taken from charger it was at 100% for an hour and then lost 2%. no apps used/terminated / no GPS nothing.

plus noticed today same problem with my ipad4 after updating iso 6.1

Ok, mine seem to be fixed now. Here's the status and how it was fixed:

Both iPad2 and iPhone5 got battery drain issue after upgrade to 6.1.

iPhone5: Repair did complete hardware restore and opened phone to test and check. Nothing found. I did a restore from iCloud backup. Did not fix issue. I did complete restore and started from scratch (auch, there goes all my messages and camera pictures etc...). Didn't fix the issue. I then did yet another network restore (yesterday morning when in charging mode) and suddently no battery drain issue anymore running halfway through my second day.

iPad2: Did network restore. Issue solved and still on 100% after two days on battery.

I have done exactly the same as Builder1, except talking to Apple. I.e tried all suggested solutions in this thread but still have a huge battery drain problem. I spent more than 10 effective hours on finding a solution but with no success.

Though, Thanks to all of you sharing your successful procedures. Looking forward to new "Howto:s" for solving the problem ...

Update to my previous post - at the risk of sounding like a n00b, "it's back".

Having closed all apps, "reset network settings" and restarting my iPhone 4S I have had 2-3 days of "normal" battery performance.

This morning, at 6:30AM unplugged my phone having been charging all night, I picked up my phone roughly 15 minutes later and noticed the phone was unusally hot. A quick check revealed the battery had lost 12% of charge and was dropping at about 1% per minute.

iStat showed roughly 4-6% CPU utilisation, but nothing else unusual. I've sinced closed down all open apps, but have not rebooted the phone.

It's now 8:30AM and the battery is at 45%.

Reset networking settings did not fix the issue. However, removel of exchange account fixed the issue for me. I have rempoved my exchange account, rebooted & re-added the account again. Battery life is good sofar & the phone didn't warm up at all in the past 2 hrs of heavy usage and I lost just 2% battery!

I am really baffled because I bought a new iphone 4s just last Thursday, restored it from a back up of my old iphone 4 and shazaam.... the battery drains before my very eyes. Flluy charged at midnight and darined by 6:30 am so not even the alram works. Very frustrating indeed. But I am now going to try your solution rapolu. I'll let you know.

It seems to not be affecting the iPhone 4 for some reason (at least from what I have read and personally experienced with ours) We have two old iPhone 4 models that are deactivated and we now uses as iPods. I updated those to 6.1 and have not had any battery issues with them. (This may also have to do with the fact that they are deactivated and not on the cellular network. The fact that they are i4's may be coincidence.) The same cannot be said for our two iPhone 5's. The battery drain on the i5's is terrible now that we are on 6.1. The battery drain is so bad, it is affecting my ability to do my job.

Correction. There were/are a number of people with iPhone 4's who have been having the problem, myself among them. However, using the steps in a previous post of mine seemed to solve the problem. Oddly enough, after fixing the phone, my default ringtone isn't the one I set. Oh well...

I have an iPhone 5 that that was updated to IOS 6.1 OTA and it drains incredibly fast.  I first noticed the problem after I installed my first Passbook app: Starbucks.  I have turned off location services in Passbook, but I'm still having the issue. I will try to reset the Network settings and see if that makes a difference.
