Q: iOS 6.1 Battery Drain Problem

Don't be offended, but, what's your point? 

I've had four different apps monitoring the battery and supposedly telling me how much time is left for each feature, which was wrong and they differed from one another.  Some apps had the same values but differed from other apps' values.  They were all useless and it was no help.

As for the process monitoring, how does that help stop battery drain?  I mentioned process monitor earlier on another thread regarding what process was the culprit in understanding what possibly could be draining the battery, but, it too, was useless in stopping the battery drain permanently.

My point is that it can be a less subjective method of determining whether the phone gets hot (battery drains) because "the CPU is doing lots of things" or because of some battery issue.

And, if enough people establish and report that it's indeed a CPU load issue, one could make the tentative conclusion that the issue might be addressed sooner rather than later by a new update. Oh wait, that's speculation ... my bad ^^

Comparing radiating heat temperature in two different places by touch is less subjective than looking for a culprit by identifying a process that shouldn't be active, or even exist.

iPhone users just need to make a reservation online for an Apple service rep to diagnose the problem.  The rep will send an email asking persmission to send an already existing diagnosis report in waiting from the iPhone at issue to the Apple rep for analysis.  These communities boards still have a good purpose, though.  Especially when the company as a whole is not satifing the end users' understanding.

This is what I get when attempting to contact apple support online re: iphone battery issue:

the same drain here on 4s. also, maybe it's the CPU issue, cause visually the interface became quite laggy (some glitches, plumes added) and also the phone got very hot being in idle state +charging

I don't agree, and never mentioned anything about trying to identify a hogging process. I don't think SysStats(Lite) even allows to do that. It does give the CPU load (current and mean over a recent time window), and *that* is less subjective than touching the rear. Not only are we not very sensitive to temperature differences on the whole, there's also a wide variation among people.

And a series of screenshots of a freshly rebooted phone showing only SysStats(Lite) running and continuous high CPU loads together with the rapidly emptying battery will certainly not do harm when added to a support request.

I seriously don't understand apple. They're losing market share, stock is going down, and for 5 months now they've been consistently releasing worse iOS updates. This battery issue is very serious, it's the main cause I've noticed for people moving over to android, and I've yet to hear any acknowledgment of the issue. What gives?

I updated my iphone 4s OTA 2 days ago, as mentioned above in several posts, I have had the same massive decline in battery life, and excessive heat. The life of my battery since the upgrade has been about 5 hours max.

I just plugged the phone into the computer, did a restore using itunes (official restore, i.e. restoring the installation of iOS 6.1, not downgrading) and then restored a backup I did just moments before running the restore. So everything is essentially the same as it was 2 hours ago, only wiped and restored from scratch.

I did that an hour ago, and since unplugging, the iphone is still on 100% and is cool to touch. The phone is connected to 3G and wireless. I have used it very little, but checked email, and gmail using the gmail app.

By this time, before the restore, I would be on about 80% battery by now.

Update: half an hour later - I have spent 20 minutes surfing web, reading flipboard and zite etc. Battery now at 98%... As it should be!

you should note that this statement might be true for iPhone 4 or newer models.

iPhone 3gs, 3g, iPhone has a larger battery which covers the bakside.

Wow... I have 2 iPhones and an iPad and all 3 are effected. I was a little concerned at my iPhone 4S and iPad 2 because they seemed to be draining quicker than usual but put that down to heavy use. I have an old iPhone 3GS that I use for work and that usually sits in a dock all the time unless I'm on call in which case I have to have it with me from 5am to 5pm so when i went to bed last night I disconnected it (so I could charge my 4S) and it was at 100% charge, usually by 8am it's lost perhaps 2-3% of charge but this morning it was at 62%, I've not used it at all yet but now (at 10:47am) it's at 53%.

Are Apple not learning by past mistakes?

My iPhone 4 is dead after 4-6 hours after upgrade to 6.1

I have an iPhone 4, and an iPod touch 4gen. I updated to the latest OS this week and both devices have severe battery drain due to WIFI. To prove this, before I went to bed on Wednesday Jan 30, 2013 I charged both devices to 100% and  closed all running apps in the back round also shutoff Bluetooth. Left WIFI on, woke up  the next day Thursday Jan 31, 2013 battery was below 50% on both devices. Last night I did the same test only this time I  shutoff the wifi also and left the 3G on, on my iPhone 4. The iPod touch was on with the wifi turned off. Woke up this morning Friday Feb 1, 2013 my iPhone was at 98% and my iPod touch 4  was still reading full charge. So now my next question is what do I do? I never had this problem before. Ive tried a couple of things reading on the Internet but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
