need replacement display mac os x laptop 17 ?

My screen is slowly dying with larger and larger white stripes down. I would like to replace this and it does not look like a DIY job for a non tech old lady since it is attached to the computer. What are reliable sources for getting a new screen installed? The computer is at least a dozen years old and has 10.4.11 on it which is fine for what I do.

g4 powerbook, Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Apple will not be able to do this for you as your Mac is offcially obsolete*

You may be able to find an authorixed repair centre that can lay its hands on the required parts.

* Vintage and obsolete Apple products:

Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than seven years ago. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. These include ALL G4 models.

And you're in the situation of used parts costing as much or more than the computer is worth on the used market. See this:

And that's just for parts. Add on a couple of hundred more for labor.

I love PowerBooks but I think you have a fatal or near-fatal failure that is not economically feasible to repair if you can't find cheaper parts and do it yourself.

My son recently bought a very nice 13-inch MacBook Pro as a refurb directly from Apple and it cost just over US$1000. Consider something like that which gives you fully up-to-date capabilities before throwing a lot of money at a bad display.

First off, what PowerBook G4 model do you have? There is a seller on ebay sellling brand new screens.. But in the meantime, here is a high resolution screen which I belive are universal to all 17 inch PowerBooks..

Also, stay away from "WeLoveMacs.com", they are a rip off and at most charge way too much for apple parts.

Here is the link for brand new screens:

Look up seller Leonworks2010 - I spoke with him personally and has every 17 inch screen for PB G4's.. New and never used.

Hope this helps..
