My apple I'd is not updating

I've updated my aple I'd, however, when I go to install an app, the window shows my old I'd and does not recognize my password.

What does that mean? DId you create a new Apple ID? If so, Apple does not merge Apple IDs nor transfer content from one ID to another ID. The content is forever part of the iD used to buy it. If you abandon an Apple ID and create a new Apple ID, then you also abandon all content bought with the ID and will need to buy it again with the new ID.
