I am getting an ipad 4 soon, can I use an ipod touch too?

I am getting an ipad 4 soon, I don't have a smartphone but like the size of the ipod touch. Can I use both or if I do get the smartphone in the future, won't it take the place of the ipod? Thanks

Yes you can use both of them with oyr one computer and Apple ID. I current have an iPad 4, iPhone 4S and 7G iPod Nano
