Is it possible to put a 1TB hard drive disk in my mid 2009 13 inch macbook pro?

I want to upgrade my hard drive disk (macbook pro 13 inch mid 2009) from 160 GB to possibly a 1TB. If I bought a 1TB hard drive disk would it work in my computer and would apple install it for me? If not is there anywhere in manhattan thats an afiliate of apple that would do it? I checked out Ifixit.com and was looking at how to do it on my own but honestly I'd probably screw it up. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Pete Benedict

they would not install a hard drive you purchased somewhere else, however I'm sure a computer repair shop in manhattan that would be willing to. If you are looking for an Apple affiliate, or an AASP, here: https://locate.apple.com/service/?pt=4&lat=40.7902778&***=-73.95972219999999. Call them and ask if they would do it for you.

And if you want to get a grasp of how the installation is carried out, in case you can't coerce somebody to do it or work up the courage to DIY, see here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Unibody+Mid+2009+Hard+Drive+Repl acement/1337/1

If your current drive is running ok, has no issues except the lack of room and you're ok with it, the fastest way to get your Mac back on the road is to buy the new drive you yearn for plus an external USB enclosure for it, clone the contents of the current drive onto the new one and then simply swap the two. You get to keep the old one in the enclosure as extra storage.

Thanks so much for your input. I actually just watched the video of how to remove and replace your existing harddrive thanks to Ifixit.com. I also watched how to clone your current drive onto the new drive and then use your old drive as an external drive. All very cool I'm just nervous I'd screw something up and mess up computer plus possibly loose everything on my drive.

AFAIK, the only time Apple installs non-default drives in Macs is when you custom order one. Never seen bare drives in Apple Store shelves. And they absolutely will not install non-Apple components they don't have on the shelf. Lawyer induced fear of liability or other such nonsense. But AASPs are not hobbled by that stuff, so you can try there.
