my son forgot his iphone screen lock password and now his iphone is disabled. I followed direction on apples itunes site to restore device. Took about an hour to finish the restore process but it didn't work. any ideas what we are doing wrong?

My son forgot his iphone screen lock password and had disabled his iphone5. I followed directions online to "restore" the device by connecting to itunes and attempting to restore the device. The process took about 60 minutes through itunes and then didn't work when it was finished. Any idea what I am doing wrong.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased, that is the way it works.

iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
