Apple changed the part number on the 8GB models when they released the third generation ones but did not change the device's hardware until the release of the fourth generation ones.

If:

1) You bought your 8G iPod at an Apple store AND

2) If you have an Apple store receipt saying it a 3G iPod,

I would go back to the Apple store and insist that they give you a 3G (the lowest is 32gb) iPod because if 1) & 2) happened, they committed fraud.

However, I doubt that you actually have an Apple store receipt saying it is a 3G iPod because I don't believe that Apple would engage in a deliberate deception.

I didn't say you made things up. Lot's of people thought that they had a receipt that said 3rd generation iPod, but when they specifically looked at it, the generation was not included. Look again at your receipt. If it does say 3rd generation you should take your 2G iPod back to Apple and demand a 3rd generation iPod (which would be 32 gb). But if that information is not on the receipt, there is nothing you can do.

And to answer your specific question, in the subject title: "If a 3rd gen 8gb ipod was supposedly never created , then why are several stores adverstising them and selling them ?" - because they were wrong.

This subject has been discussed at length in this community. I've yet to see anyone establish that Apple advertised the 8GB Touch as 3rd gen. They didn't. Non-Apple stores, outlets and ebayers may well have done (I've seen them myself), but Apple did not.

Yes, but this is the first case of which I am aware that a poster has said that he has a receipt from an Apple store stating that it was a 3G iPod.

The OP has clearly stated in response to my specific questions that:

1) He bought his 2G iPod at the Apple store;

2) He was told by an Apple sales person that it was a 3G iPod; and

3) Most important, he has a receipt from the Apple store saying it was a 3G iPod

Whether Apple advertised it or not, an Apple employee at an Apple store informed him at the time of the sale and confirmed it via the written receipt that it was, in fact, a 3G iPod. Due to Apple's actions, he had every reason to believe that he had purchased a 3G iPod and I believe that Apple owes him one.

Let's hope then, that mewashington85 let's us know how he/she gets on. There's a first time for everything (so I'm told).

To my mind, 3G means the phone network. The generations of iPod have always been referred to as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th generation, not 3G.

Perhaps mewashington85 could post a photo of the receipt. I'd love to see it.

By the way...

I have to tell you, I've read such posts in the past on this forum.

I apologize for the confusion . I meant 3rd gen I just put 3G

And I this particular store had it in their window that they had such a thing

I am in the store now waiting to talk to a different manager . The first one tried to tell me that that is what I

Bought and that's what they gave me . So I am waiting for another manager and I hope to get the correct iPod or my money back . I wish I was tech Davy enough to know how to even put a pic up here

Thank you for all your help . I have also reported the stir to the apple corporate. They have all kinds of false advertisements in here .

If a 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch was supposidly never created , then why are several stores advertising and selling them ?
