There seems to be an error with the information that the website gave. I suspect that this is a 13" MBP but this I do not think is important.

I'm fairly certain that the MBP will have Leopard or Snow Leopard as the OS. Are you communicating with me on another Mac? If so, does it have a Firewire port. If you do not know, can you give me information as to the model it is. Use the afore mentioned website and enter that serial number if you have to.

In the interim, look at this support article and go through the steps. If there is confusion on your part, post back.

If you get to the step that requires the installation disk, you have two options;

Call Apple customer service and give them the serial number of the MBP (and credit card number for the fee) for duplicate install disks.

Order from the Apple online store a Snow Leopard retail disk. You really should have one anyway. I think that this is preferable:

You also could make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar. The diagnosis is free. Any repairs require coin of the realm.

Ciao.
