iOS 6.1 Mail App Bug?

Thanks Modular747, but I can't access my email settings since it crashes when I go settings>mail,calendar,contact.

Reset the phone (no data loss): press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.

This temporarily fixes my wi-fi problem, but it recurs sooner or later. The iPhone 5 shouldn't have to be repeatedly re-set to work as advertised, in my opinion. IOS 6.1 didn't seem to make any difference, as far as I can tell. I sure hope Apple will acknowledge this bug and deal with it sooner rather than later.

Assuming your phone has never been jailbroken, restore the phone in iTunes - first using a backup and if needed as a new phone (without using a backup).

@Modular 747: restoring the iPhone is exactly what I was trying to avoid.. Anyway, I just did it. Luckily, had an iCloud backup from 1hr before I did the 6.1 update. Now the mail app seems to work just fine. Thanks anyway for taking the time.

Glad it worked out for you. I was reasonably sure that restoring would fix your mail issues by itself. Using the "pre 6.1 backup" had nothing to do with this.

The 6.1 update did not change the default mail server ports to begin with. Your problem was data/settings corruption which occured during the update, and not specific to 6.1. That's why 99.9999+% who updated had no mail issues.

I have exactly the same problem. I have a 4S and uploaded to 6.0.1 about three weeks ago, and I haven't been able to receive mail since. (Sending emails works fine.) I just uploaded to 6.1, but that didn't solve the problem. The mail app says it cannot connect to my mail server.

What The **** Apple.

Apple doesn't read these posts. How about reading this thread and troubleshooting your phone as discussed. Right?

I've already read the post, and I don't want to restore the phone — too much stuff I don't want to risk losing. I just want my mail to work normally.

How is Apple responsible for maintaining your phone? Are you really looking forr help or to whine?

Did you even try more basic steps like resetting or deleting and reinstalling the email account? There is no data loss when restoring if you backup and restore the backup as well.

I did reset it, I meticulously compared the settings with the mail program on my computer. It's obvious that it's got to with updating the system, that's when the mail stopped coming.

If I backup the stuff now, and restore the phone, will everything that was on the phone after the upgrade remain?

There is no bug. It's not the update itself. Data/ settings got corrupted somewhere during the update process which you can't see.

If you backup and restore it, everything will be put back. You should also be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service.

I had this problem with my accounts that were routed through an O2 server on my iphone, my hotmail account worked fine. The solution I found was to go into iTunes select your iPhone in Devices on the left / in the top bar go to info / selecvt Synch Mail Accounts and select all the email accounts that are not working.

when I selected the hotmail account that was working it stopped working unselecting it made it work again.

I don't understand why but it worked for me, no resetting involed

Ugggghhh...My Mail App hasn't been working since updating to 6.1! I just get a blank white screen when I open the mail app, and that's after 30 seconds of nothing! Today I updated to 6.1.1 hoping they would fix the bug but nothing! Any help out there? Suggestions???
