My screen went black and wont come back on?

My macbook is about 5 years old. I was watching hulu last night and it stopped and said "buffering" but never came back on. I couldn't close safari or do anything. I closed the lid and when I opened it back up it wouldn't come back on. I let the battery run out and then plugged it in and restarted. It started fine but I let it go idle and the screen saver came on and then went black. I touched the mouse and it took longer than normal but came back on. It went idle again and now it won't come back on? It is plugged in and the white light in the front is on but no screen. 😟 Can anyone help?
