Reconnect TC with new iMac

Hi,

You have helped me in past and found this really useful.

I have a new Imac and unable to use my TC. I could see it in TM but accidentally deleted it. Can someone please assist me to reconnect TC. I have a separate modem/router and would like to back up two computers to TC.

Mac OS X 10.6.1

You sure it isn't Time Capsule??

Start over..

Unplug the TC from wherever it is now.. plug it into the computer..

Press and hold reset button until the front LED flashes rapidly..

Release reset and open airport utility.

Give the Time Capsule a new name.. eg TC is a nice short one.

Go to the disk page and turn on file sharing and make sure you have it set to use TC password.

You could also turn on the guest account.

Now you need to also set it to bridge or router depending on the main network setup required.

Find out the cause of the flashing led.. you need to learn your way around airport utility.. it will give you a list of errors for why it is flashing and you need to fix each of them.. I cannot tell you what the problem is. you need to list them for me.

You do need to follow the earlier instructions and bridge the TC.. and setup wireless correctly if you don't want to use ethernet.

Are you plugged into the TC though or something else?

Sometimes you just need to start over.. reset the TC and do it again..

I think you will do better loading the older 5.6 version utility.

How to load 5.6 into ML.

1. Download 5.6 for Lion.

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482

Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.

2. Download and install unpkg.

http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/

Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.

You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

Then you can follow exactly the apple setup documents.

These have not been updated for the latest version of airport utility.

Or ring apple support and get them to talk you through it.
