May 20, 2014 5:52 PM in response to Lawrence Finchby shayind4,The problem here is why is the issue fairly common with iPhone5? It wasn't that common with its predecessors. Rebooting means rebooting, but not trying to restore 'life' to a dying phone.

May 20, 2014 5:59 PM in response to shayind4by Lawrence Finch,I've had several iPhones since June, 2007 (Original, 3S, 4S and now a 5S). Every one of them has required occasional rebooting. I usually reboot preëmptively about once a week; doing this seems to reduce the probability of the phone crashing at an inconvenient time.
Your mistake in thinking that the device is a phone. It's actually a very powerful pocket-sized computer that can also make phone calls. And it has all of the foibles that computers have.

Jun 16, 2014 3:18 PM in response to RJMby clordqb,RJM - thank you so much for this post !!! saved my day. it didn't work the first 3 or 4 times, but I kept trying -- and exactly as you said -- toggle 2 times (1 or 3 didn't work) ... then hold home+sleep buttons down and it booted!!
I never had problems with an iphone until I started using the silent button ... going to go back to DoNotDisturb setting instead.

Jun 20, 2014 4:59 AM in response to clordqbby stevesmith5000,I had this problem just now and I am grateful for the fix. I am just curious if others have started using a non-Apple power cord recently? I have and am wondering if that could be the problem??

Jun 22, 2014 1:13 PM in response to myiphoneisgoldenby Jennalynn,It's June of 2014 and I just had this problem.
I'd been reading about the use of unauthorized lightening cables perhaps frying the phone, but this fix (toggle the mute button etc.) worked for me.
Scary scary moments though until I found you all!!
