How do I know my I map path prefix?

Go first to your Gmail account

Click on the Settins button and choose "Settings"

Click on the 6th tab entitled "Forwarding and POP/IMAP

There are three categories: Forwarding: POP Download: and
IMAP Access:

Go to the IMAP Access: category and it should read "Status: IMAP is enabled" If it reads anything else, than simply click on "Enable IMAP" and than log out of your gmail account and log back in.


Load the Mail application

On the menu bar...

  1. Click Mail > Preferences...
  2. Type the following in the "Accounts" window

Account Information tab:

  1. Click the "Account Information" tab in the Accounts window
  2. Description: Gmail
  3. Email Address: [enter your email address]
  4. Full Name: [enter your full name]
  5. Incoming Email Server: [imap.gmail.com] (Provided you have already enabled imap in your gmail settings)
  6. User Name: [enter your user name]
  7. Password: [enter your password]
  8. Outgoing Mail Server(SMTP): GMAILsmtp
  9. Check the box for Use only this server


Advanced tab

  1. Check box for [Enable this account]
  2. Check box for [Include when automatically checking for new messages
  3. IMAP Path Prefix: type INBOX
  4. Port: type 993 and check box for "Use SSL"
  5. Authentification: Password
  6. Check the box for "Use IDLE command if the server supports it"
  7. Exit and saved when prompted
  8. Restart your nail application
