iMovie HD and iPhoto 6.0 my photos will not load into iMovie ?

I have several 2x3 photo's that I scanned in Photoshop CS2 and then imported into iPhoto 6.0 and I went to the Media tab in iMovie HD and selected my photo's from iMovie and they will start to load and even render, but if I leave them to finish rendering I go back and I have white blanks where the photos should be in the timeline at the bottom my .mp3 is still there and when I quit iMovie HD and reopen all my clips are in the trash? The last time I used iMovie was the version in iLife 05 and everything went great, what am I doing wrong this time?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I've got the original AGP Graphics card that came with my G4/500mhz and
I put a 1.2ghz OWC processor upgrade
which graphics card will work on my Mac
and is it cheap enough to pay to upgrade again? I'm disabled now and money is tight I'm trying to hang onto my G4 as long as I can but I don't want to put a lot of money in a old Mac when I can get a new iMac for $1200 or more please let me know
