I've been asked why a MacBook Pro keyboard illuminates and then it doesn't.
This would seem to happen during a session, it goes on and then off for seemingly no reason.
Would this be related to the room lighting intensity or a product malfunction?

Probably it is the light intensity (ambient light) inside the room.

You can reset PRAM and SMC to make sure that there is no product malfunction.
