My Ipad 2 is stuck in recovery mode after the update 6.1

Two days ago I heard of people around me the new update for the ipad2 is out so I went to settings checked if there was one and there was one. So I clicked on download and so it went on it turned off after it and got stuck on the screen where you see you have to connect to itunes. I connected it to itunes and it said its in recovery mode. I clicked on recovory and fix it so it went downloading after 12 min maybe it was finished but came up with the error 1403 that the downloading was damaged and corrupted.... So I tried agin but I keep getting the same message and two days have gone by and still cant use my Ipad? Anyone else has this problem with his/her ipad 2? Anyone else who fixed it? Is apple working on it?

I had the same problem and had been trying Techmadness's technique but I kept getting the 3194 error and could not restore it manually.

I rebooted my laptop, turned off antivirus, used a different cable and tried the restore straight from iTunes again (meaning not the manual restore) and it worked for me. I'm not saying all of this is neccesary to do but this is all I had done. I think rebooting the computer may be the fix?

I'm just pointing this out because I was so caught up in the fact that something was wrong, I didn't even think to try and restore it again normally. Maybe Apple fixed the issue since? I don't know but I have to say this was a pain in the rear. All over a simple update? Come on Apple. And here I was on the fence about getting a Macbook. I think I'll pass.

Also thanks Techmadness, your technique seems to have saved a lot of people the hassel. It's good to know this exists for future issues, which I'm sure there will be considering Apple has taken a longish break from customer service.

Ya know........... you would think Apple would be tired of getting phone calls about this EXACT same issue.

My husbands iPhone 4 did this same thing about a month ago.... luckily a tech helped us fix it (something about holding both buttoms down while plugged in, but holding onto one while its loading, which worked btw)

But now my Ipad 2.... WHICH IS 30 MINUTES OLD.... I literally just bought it and brought it home........Now I have to see if Tech's way works for me.

I tried the work around with no luck. I even went out and found a newer version of the Ipsw file and no love there either. Looks like it loads ok in iTunes and get to the point where iTunes says it will show up after restart and then iTunes show I have an iPad in recovery mode still. Been thought the process about 5 times on a pc and once on a MacBook. Any further suggestions? I do get a 1394 error occasionally but we have very good wired connection with no blockages.

Hi TexasAj,

No I'm affraid I have never worked for Apple. I agree with your point though, since the master controller Sir Jobs passed on things have been very poor. I've found that the hardware quality to still be world leading, but these departments and segmented companies all have their own driving Directors, Steve was crap with hardware, not much better with software, but the style design purpose and quality bar that must be reached before something went out the door has been lost in my opinion.

I hope Mr Cook can turn this around but I fear it's very unlikely, his style is just so different.

Cheers

Don't waste your time going to the apple store, there not interested. My iPhone 4 is stuck on recovery mode and won't turn on. I've tried everything everyone in these posts have suggested but nothing works. Tried restoring it but get errors. Apple did a diagnostics and tried restore, opened the phone up etc then said they couldn't fix it. Shocking, there update broke it, they should replace the phone for free regardless to whether the warranty has ran out.

With the last upgrade to my iPad, now that I think of it, my iPad would shut off intermittently, but eventually that problem went away.

I recently did another upgrade on my iPad and want to say it was to 6.1.3. Again, my iPad started intermittently turning off whenever, it didn't matter what I was doing but I figured, like last time it would eventually fix itself. Last night the iPad wouldn't turn back on at all, this morning I got it to turn on but it was in the "connect to itunes" screen. Itunes, using my PC, wouldn't do anything but when I hooked it up my PC beeped so I know it saw the device. Not getting anything to work, I took it to the Apple store. The employee got it to talk to itunes, which I couldn't get it to do, then it errored out I think with Error 8 or 9. I was told I'd have to meet with a tech so another employee scheduled me in about an hour later. When I came back to the store, the employee that scheduled me said he would be my tech and in the same breath, without trying anything, told me my iPad was not fixable, it was a hardware problem which are not fixable because the units are sealed (how convenient) and since there was no "documented history" of the problem nothing could be done EXCEPT I could purchase another one for about 1/2 the price of a "new" one with only a 90 day warranty. Oh, yeah, my warranty had just expired a few days ago.

I also had a G5 that bit the dust just days after the warranty expired. No fix for that one either.

I can't explain how angry and disappointed I am with Apple.
