My Ipad 2 is stuck in recovery mode after the update 6.1

TechMadness you were correct. I have an HP computer with an HP download manager app. It recoginzed the .IPSW file as a compressed file and was automatically changing the extention to .zip. Was able to work around. The fix loaded and I have a new virgin Ipad. Yeah! I appreciate your and everyone else's help.

Rdugas999, good job, now you can restore from an update and get all your stuff back :)

ive tried 3 of those files and everytime i get the error mess 3194 help! for ipad 2 w/ pc windows xp

argh...same here! ipad2 is buggered, downloading techmadness' fix too.

(what has happened to Apple recently??? the whole reason I swapped to Apple was ease of use, this is the second time this week I have run into a "restore it all" error initiated by an Apple update...this is turning into a microsoft-esque moment for so many!!!)

right click on ipad software update>delete it

right click on iphone software update>delete it

the update worked for me to..thank you!!

You my friend (techmadness) are a hero in my eyes. Just saved me getting very cranky at some unknown Indian on the phone. probably the easiest fix I have ever implemented.

That error message is quite specific, if your getting that for each file then thisis what apple say on the subject:

Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3014, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:

Install the latest version of iTunes.

Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".

Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

I would check your firewall before digging through your host file.

P.s.

You can do the restore on ANY machine with someone else's ITUNES, so if you have machine issues try another machine in those or ask a buddy maybe.
