Sep 13, 2013 4:33 AM in response to hotorangeby disisyete,Hi Everyone.
I have been working on my stucked in recovery mode ipad 2 for two days now.
You can email techmadness directly @ support@techmadness.co.uk. You can get almost instantenous reply.
Thanks to them!
Here's what I did, and this brought back my ipad to life but all data is gone.
Here's the scenario before my ipad went on recovery mode.
ipad 2 running on ios 5.0.1 - jailbreak.
I upgraded to 6.1.x ( i was not sure then)
1. Downloaded almost all IPSW file related to ipad 2 (from ios 5.0 to 6.1.2). but found that my ipad is compatible to iPad2,2_x.x.x_yyyyyy_Restore.ipsw. So anything with 'iPad2,2' file is compatible to my ipad.
2. When doing the restore, i encountered this error "This device isn't eligible for the requested build".
3. Go to this site: http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/03/fix-this-device-isnt-eligible-for-the-requested-b uild-error-in-itunes-when-updating-ios/ to help you with the error in #2. I did all the steps just be sure I don't miss a thing. but still failed after.
4. Then I came across redsnow. Latest version can be found here: http://www.redsn0w.us/2010/03/download-direct-links-jailbreak-guides.html. Download what is appropriate for your PC. Unzip and install.
6. In the initial screen of redsnow, choose Extras, SHSH Blobs, Query. From here you will know the existing blobs for your device. Mine looked like this:
iPad2,2 4167192691661 remote blobs:
6.0.1,
5.1.1, 5.0.1
7. So I hit back, Click Even More, Restore.
I did some trial and error:
IPSW: I chose 6.0.1, 5.1.1, 5.0.1 (output from step #6 and downloaded from step #1) one at a time.
When I chose 6.0.1, it requires me to load a 4.x blob which I don't have.
When I chose 5.1.1 there was an error but you can bypass this error by hitting Continue. But after initializing, I got an error.
Finally, I tried 5.0.1 and bypass the error, and after a few minutes, voila! I have a fresh, new ipad. All my photos, playlist gone, thanks to AppleIOS stupid upgrade process... But at least I got my ipad back alive. I guess this will be my last Apple device.
Hope these help.

Sep 22, 2013 1:25 AM in response to disisyeteby ta0824,I had this same issue with the upgrade of my iPad 2 to iOS7 from iOS6.1. I downloaded the Redsnow software to my iMac, loaded, went into Extras, hit the Recovery Fix button and my iPad was back good as new.
It seems that you need to restart your iPad and have it re-search for the Software version to update to. If it has downloaded a previous version, and you kick off the upgrade process with the old version, now that iOS7 is available, something goes wrong.
Thanks.

Nov 9, 2013 7:56 AM in response to hotorangeby A Magno,HEY ALL,
I'm just bothered at how much trouble this update is causing people all over the world for such a long time now. I still receive emails about people encountering this problem. Anyway, I have solved this problem but I don't know if my solution would work on other iPads as well but here are the things that I did. I hope it helps everyone.
First, if you have read from the previous pages, I have asked Techmadness to email me his solution. He did and this is what he told me:
Follow these steps to recover your device:go goto http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/02/download-ipad-firmware-ipsw/ and download the firmware for your ipad model. if you do not know which ipad minor version you have, then download the first IOS 6.1 file for your ipad and complete the following steps. If you receive a message saying "not for this model, or not compatible" then try the next file. *warning: this is a total factory restore so the downloads are around 700mb each.
1. open itunes, ipad disconnected.
2. connect ipad
3. warning restore message appears
4. windows users the SHIFT key, MAC users hold the COMMAND key
5. click the restore button.
This will open a dialogue box allowing you to navigate to the file you downloaded.
6. Select the downloaded file and hit ok.
This should start the manual restore, if it fails, download the next file and repeat the steps.
Let me know how you get on.
This did not work for me hence I messaged him again saying: (If this works out for you, then great! You don't have to continue with what I have to say from here on.)
Thank you so much for replying Tech Madness!
I have tried what you have suggested but to no avail. First, since I can't remember the minor version of my iPad 2, I tried to download the IOS 6.1. Everything went smoothly until when after extracting in iTunes, it said that "The iPad can not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I have no idea what this means! So I tried it again but it still showed up. So I decided to download a lower version, which is 5.1.1. But the same thing happened as I was restoring it. I'm still pretty desperate. I need my iPad so bad! I hope that you can still help me and that there's still chance for my iPad 2.
I would also like to tell you that initially, my iPad's been jailbroken and cydia and installous were installed. Probably that's the reason why it's so messed up when I tried to update the software. I dunno. I've also tried TinyUmbrella but it also doesn't work. Please please please, help me!
I really appreciate all your help! Thank you so much!
He eventually replied but he just said to keep on trying but I later on gave up on it and started to look for a new solution. My brother told me to try updating my iPad on his desktop via the normal way first (iTunes). It WORKED!
What I did was to just restore it on a windows desktop. I guess this worked because my net connection to the Internet was direct. I didn't download anything and just clicked restore on iTunes. I waited until iTunes downloaded the update and when it tried to install, it did. Warn you, it will take long to download. But the wait is worth it! Just be patient. Remember, I did it on a desktop. Meaning, the USB connection was stable and sturdy, the internet connection was direct, and nothing else was on the way to hinder with the connection of the iPad and the desktop. (Because I think the unstable wifi connection and the USB port of my MacBook Pro to my iPad was the reason why downloading it thru iTunes in my laptop didn't work out.) All of my data were deleted though but that was okay, it was as if I had a new but updated iPad.
Well, that's what happened to me. Don't worry, bricking your iPad isn't true! It's just probably because you have jailbroken your iPad and you tried updating it. Problems will really occur.

Nov 10, 2013 4:42 PM in response to A Magnoby Kyrunya,Hi! That's how the guy who fixed mine was able to restore it through iTunes. I'm thinking wifi goes out from time to time without it being noticeable and that's why it takes a desktop with non wifi for it to work. I tried it on my desktop at work several times and it would not work. It's wireless though. I'm just so glad my iPad is back. Although all my info seemed to gave been lost, it was all in the cloud and eventually it just appeared ( my contacts). I had to reload my apps but it was just a matter if tapping the cloud next to it. Go to "purchased" in the App Store and every app you had should be there. You don't have to repay for apps that we're not free!
Thanks everyone for your help!

Dec 6, 2013 5:34 AM in response to disisyeteby lauramdavies,Hi,
My iPad went into recovery mode and said I had to restore.
If you haven't got eeverything backed up, DO NOT RESTORE!!! If I had done that, I would have lost a year of travel photos. I would have been more devasted than you can believe.
Instead, I found this app called RecBoot.
if it isn't found on this link, just keep googling Recboot for Mac until you find it.
With one click I got my iPad out of recovery mode and retrieved my pictures.
I've had the worst experience this year with Apple. This is the third time I've lost precious pictures through Apple releasing software they clearly have not tested properly. And yes, in an ideal world I should have backed things up but when you are travelling in remote parts of the world that's not so easy. In fact my iPad was intended to BE my back up from my camera HD cards. Saying 'you should have backed up, is not a reasonable response to their incompetancy, nor do they ever apologise to the (evidently) thousands of customers they are screwing over. No other company would get away with this. I'm thinking about trying to never buy Apple again.
I hope this helps others to not lose everything.
Laura

Jan 22, 2014 4:13 AM in response to hotorangeby iappletech,he only way to restore your Ipad 2 is to open your Ipad and remove the LCD screen then you have to remove the volume control doughterboard connectore cable from the logic board (you can see this in youtube how to open your Ipad). Then connect your ipad to PC and make restore through Itunes it will take 5 minuts maxiumum.
For sure 100 percent it will work! fix every thing back and restart your ipad. This is the only way to get your ipad working again.
After that when it is working let me know if you want to know why this problem occured?
