How do I get my HP Laser Jet 6p to work with OSX 10.8.2?

Somebody out there must know the answer and if so, please let me know. How do I get my HP Laser Jet 6p to work with OSX 10.8.2?

It prints, but does not print the preview. It prints the following:

I am new to mac and if there is any help, laymans terms would suit me.

HP only support the laserjet 6P on Mac OSX up to 10.5.8, they have not made any new drivers since then. Try a generic driver, it may work.

The good news is that my printer is now printing what it supposed to. Have reinstalled CUPS +Gutenprint v5.29

the printer is now doing its job. Well, not 100% because it only prints out the document/ documents for the one job and then fails to print on the next job.

I've checked printer settings, and have not been able to get it to print more than one job at a time. For the next document, I need to close down my mac and start it up again. I must be missing something???

Thought that I should say, and I hope that I'm not being too premature, that my printer is now behaving and prints exactly what's in the preview and prints every time. If it decides to misbehave, I will be back on to the forum.

Switching the printer off and the imac off, and then switching on the printer and then the imac seemed to do the trick. Fingers crossed!

Thank you to all that particpated in my quest to sort this problem.

Hello DonMigell or anyone in the wider community out there,

I am interested in this topic and I read all its postings but I am still confused. I think I have the same problem but your postings of Feb 1, when it did NOT work, followed by the one on Feb 6 when IT WORKED have nothing in between. How did you make it work?

I also have an HP LaseJet 6P. When it was hard wired to my PC (Windows Vista) it works fine. Now I am a novice MAC owner and I am trying to make it work on the MAC with Mountain Lion OS X10.8.4. I am getting similar kind of garbled stuff on the first page:

%!PS-Adobe-3.0 Query

userdict (\004)cvn{(\004) print flush}put

%%?BeginFeatureQuery

followed by an unending stream of blank pages. Please share from your experience. I did a selt-test on my printer and it has 2 MB of Memory (SIMM slots 1, 2, and 3 are empty).

Your symptoms mean standard postscript isn't being recognized by the printer.

What you apparently missed on the Feb 6 post is that he installed and started using the Gutenprint driver(s).

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

In that Feb 6 post he also stated he was having the problem of one page or job printing, then the printer stops. That issue, I think, is caused by using a USB-parallel adapter cable.

The only way to solve that, that I know of is to use the alternate USB driver, "usbtb."

Get it here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/usbtb%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X%20ONLY %20usb/

I've made guesses here based on limited info from you. If I guessed wrong, give us the correct info so we can help.
