iPhone 4S Software update question

each time I plug in my 4S, a window opens saying "A new iPhone software version (6.1) is available for the iPhone. Would you like to download it and update your iPhone now?"

I have canceled each time as I am afraid that it will erase all of my contacts, phone numbers, emails, etc. Can you confirm that if I do that, I won't lose my info that is currently on my iPhone?

Thanks!

Thanks Steph,

But now I have a new issue. When I clicked on the download and update button, it said:

There are purchased items on the iPhone “Rob” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?

So, I hit cancel and began looking for a way to transfer those particular items. It's not clear as to how to transfer them. Do you know how? Is it a simple drag and drop type of thing? I can't figure it out...help!!
