Feb 4, 2013 1:24 PM in response to Roxy10101010by Paul,I have had Wifi issues on ALL of my devices since 6.0.1. 2 different iPhone 4S's, 2 iPhone 5's, and iPad 3... I thought it was my Apple Extreme router, so I went out and dropped another $200 to upgrade to the newest version. This did NOTHING. I've read to disable the encryption. This is not a good solution for me. I tried it to see if it would solve the issue. It did not.
I have full bars, and it is painfully slow on the 4S especially. I'm fustrated beyond belief. All these devices worked perfectly until the updates. This is 100% a software issue, and I thought 6.1 was going to solve this. Not at all. The funny thing, when I bring the device into the Apple store, it works like a CHAMP, but as soon I try to connect to ANY other wifi, my house, Starbucks, ANY public access point, the wifi is horrible. What is so magical about the Apple Store's wifi connection?

Feb 4, 2013 8:31 PM in response to Roxy10101010by Mr. STiVo,I don't know if this will help anyone, but I upgraded my iPhone from IOS 5.1 to 6.1 today and saw similar wifi issues. I have an iPhone 4 and an Airport Extreme basestation. My phone never had any problems when running IOS 5.1 but once it was upgraded to IOS 6.1 I had similar issues everyone is complaining about.
What I saw was my phone would sometimes get an IP address and other times would self assign an address. When it did get a valid IP address, webpages still would not load or sometimes would start loading and eventually fail.
I tried everything people were talking about, restarting the phone, the router, resetting network settings, etc. I even tried restoring the phone again and not applying my backup so the phone was "clean". Same problem.
Then I looked at my Airport Extreme wireless settings. I had my 2.4GHz network set on a specific channel. When I changed it to automatic the phone finally started working. When I changed back to a fixed channel the phone stopped working. Back to automatic, the phone works. For me at least, it seams like setting the airport channel manually is causing my problems. I even tried setting it to automatic, testing the phone works, finding the channel being used, setting that working channel manually and the phone does not work. It makes no sense to me but setting the channel to automatic is working for now......
If this is the problem then I can only assume I will have huge problems using public wifi and hotspots since I am sure they set channels manually. I'll have to spend a little time seeing how well it works in the wild.

Feb 4, 2013 10:37 PM in response to Paulby khurana,Paul, I feel your pain! I have the exact same issue. It's frustrating to find how the iPhone 5 seems to "magically" work flawlessly with the apple store wifi but no where else. Very frustrating! The geniuses all look at you like you are an idiot with no clue how to use wifi. Spending more money on apple products in hopes to get everything to work well just adds insult to injury! Apple please please please fix this! It is getting out of hand. How is this not, "Wifi-gate"???

Feb 5, 2013 6:32 AM in response to Roxy10101010by MH Wong,Same. My iPhone 5 worked quite ok on iOS 6.0.1. But when I updated to 6.1, problems are there. Wifi go on and off randomly. The most frustrating thing will be 3G. I'm not sure whether it is the service provider's problem or what. My friend and me using same carrier, both with iPhone 5, can't detect 3G. You can see full signal at the signal bar but no 3G. When it did, it will sometimes go on and off with full signal. Oh my goodness, 6.1 seems contain more problem the the version before.

Feb 5, 2013 10:56 AM in response to Mr. STiVoby Paul,I was hoping this was it. Not for my unfortunbately. My Airport Extreme was already set for bothe the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels as automatic. My Macbook is pulling 65.0 Mbps down and the iOS devices pull a 0.5 Mbps in the same location. It's only the iOS devices. I just don't understand it. The iPhone 5 will OCCASIONALLY pull the same 65 Mbps, but it's sporatic.

Feb 5, 2013 10:24 PM in response to Roxy10101010by Patrickster,Having the same issue with my iPad 3. Wish I had never upgraded now. This is a major pain, since I depend on my ipad for work and sending files to clients. Fortunately I didn't upgrade my iPhone and intend not to until these bugs are fixed. I certainly hope Apple is reading these complaints and does not make us wait 5 months before they fix anything.

Feb 6, 2013 2:21 AM in response to Roxy10101010by evrens,I have finally found a solution!!!
I just realized the problem with the Wi-Fi after upgrading to iOS 6.1, while trying to transfer photos & videos over Wi-Fi to my computer. I am using an iPhone 4S and before upgrading I had no issues with this. Normally my transfers were about 2000-3000 KB/s while the wireless router is in another room. But today I realized that the transfer speed was about 10 KB/s which is extremely slow. Then I checked with safari, with speed test, with appstore, and everything was really slow under Wi-Fi. I did not face such problems before upgrading iOS 6.1.
Then I read Mr. STiVo's reply above and checked my Wireless LAN setting in my Router. The channel settings were already on Auto. But there is one more setting "Channel Width". It was on Auto 20/40 Mhz. I set it to 20 Mhz, and everything was fine! My transfers are as fast as before.
Also take a look at this thread:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4199
It also recommends setting channel width to 20 MHz.
Hope that it helps for you, too!
