Unwanted Scrolling in Pages

I use an iMac with System v10.8.2. Something about Pages '09 v4.3 (1048) _irritates_ me to No-end.

Often & all on its own, my copy of Pages scrolls just a-little. [This problem is System-wide, for Safari just scrolled a-little, _both_ side to-side _&_ up and-down, separately.] So I must scroll-back myself. What an _irritating_ waste of time! :-( ]

Does anyone else notice this problem on his or her Mac? And besides you gurus, how can I prevent this random, little scrolling? Thank you.

P. S. Oh, yeah: I _compliment_ Apple, too. In Pages, I like how headers & footers are made. When I change just-one, they _all_ change on each page, in-place. < Way to-go, Apple! :-) >

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), 2.5 GHz Intel Core I5 P. & 4 GB M.

Are you using a third-party keyboard with embedded trackpad, the Apple Trackpad, or Magic Mouse?

Try adjusting touch sensitivity.

I use an Apple Trackpad and the same OS X and Pages version as you. Never have witnessed the issue you describe, unless I accidentally brush the touch device, or the edge of the keyboard overlays the corner of the Trackpad.

I reply, "How [in the World] do I adjust touch sensitivity?" My mouse is a Plain device which has a toggle switch beneath. This switch has 2 positions: One reveals a light green color below & One reveals a plain black. [What is this switch do, please? I don't like such mysteries. ]

Hey Peter in Australia, where it is Tomorrow already,

Tracking is not quite to what I refer, I think. [My Mouse battery level is at 43%. Good Thing that I have AA batteries on-hand! :-) ]

So the issue of Touch Sensitivity remains. :-(

The switch beneath is on/off for the Magic Mouse. Green is on, black is off. Maybe that will save batteries!

So the issue of Touch Sensitivity remains. :-(

I'm afraid so. And I agree that tracking has nothing to do with swipe sensitivity.

I have a magic mouse and a trackpad. Each is good for different things.

Bob,

I occasionally encounter a situation where the curser will jump to a different location. This happens when I am editing text and have zoomed in on the page. It's completely random and the only way I have found to stop it is to change the zoom and then re-set the zoom where I want it. (Sometimes if I yell at it loud enough it straightens up.)

Glass-topped tables cause interesting mouse behaviour. Maybe patterned surfaces too?

As you say it is a system "feature". Nothing can be done in Pages about it. Ask in the MacOS Mountian Lion forum about it.

That is because you haven't inserted Section Breaks between the parts you want to be different

Menu > Insert > Section Break

and then gone to:

Inspector > Layout > Section > Configuration > uncheck Use previous Headers and Footers

Have you looked in the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf available from under the Help menu where you will also find Help itself?

When the green is showing, the mouse is on. I have the same mouse and it was eating batteries like mad, till I wised up and got into the habit of turning it off at day's end. If you forget to turn it back on before firing up your computer the next day it'll give you a reminder.

The oversensitive touch-scrolling drives me crazy with this thing, I hate it. My son & family have the same. Nothing can be done except wait for it to wear out - hopefully before the warranty does 😉

Honestly, I did not know that the mouse drew _any_ power from its battery when the computer is Off. If it does draw any, the amount might be very small, almost negligible? [This issue _begs_ for a Study!]

[Lastly about Canada lynnefrombc, from 1985 to 1990, I attended Graduate School at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Self-loving Minneapolis / St. Paul. A fellow student there was named Roland Saeger. Roland's hometown was Calgary, Alberta. As far-as I know, Calgary is _similar_ to Denver, CO here-in the U. S.: on the eastern edge of the _beautiful_ Rocky Mountains.]

Hi Bob,

I have no idea how much power the mouse uses with the computer off, I just know it makes a HUGE difference to the batteries.

I've never been to Denver, but I had an uncle who had a wonderful property just outside of Calgary. Beautiful there! I looked at Denver in wikipedia and I see some of the similarities you're talking about. Calgary's bigger, Denver's higher, and I think Calgary's weather gets colder and Denver's gets hotter - but they both get those Chinooks!

I just noticed you're in North Carolina - one ancestor of mine appears there in about 1775 or so. Guess they dealt with problems unlike our battery-eating mice! LOL, life these days is tough, isn't it?
