Help with old ipod touch

I was given an older ipod touch. If I erase all content, will that allow me to sync with my other apple products (phone and Ipad)? When I check settings, there is no option for hareware versions. Does this mean I have a really old product that can't be updated?

You cannot sync an iPod touch directly to an iPhone or iPad. You sync via iTunes on a computer, or you download from the iTunes Store.

I don't know what you mean by "no option for hareware versions". Do you mean that you want to upgrade the version of iOS on the iPod? If so, you need to connect the iPod to your computer, run iTunes, select the iPod in the sidebar and click "check for updates".

Note that a first-generation iPod touch can only run up through iOS 3.1.3, a 2nd-generation unit up through iOS 4.2.1, and a third-gen unit up through iOS 5.1.1. You can find out what version of iPod you have via this web page:
