Just hooked up display - my 2nd display isn't working

So I finally broke down and bought the TD to run off my MBP and so far it's perfect... with one exception... I figured I'd hook up my other non-apple monitor in protrait orientation for palletes and whatnot, but for some reason I'm not getting any signal on it whatsoever.

It's an HP, hooked up with a mini-display port to display port cable. I've unplugged it, power cycled it... rebooted my MBP... nothing. What am I missing in this equation? Do I need a different adapter? Maybe mini-display to DVI???

Thanks.

Does your MacBook Pro support two external displays? See section 14 of:

<http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5219>

If the second display is not Thunderbolt it can't be plugged directly into the Thunderbolt display. (See section 16 in above link.) It will work if a Thunderbolt disk drive (with two Thunderbolt ports) is connected between the displays.

My MBP supports 2 displays, but that second part is interesting. It was my understanding that it would work, but since its a non-TD it would terminate the chain. I researched the heck out of this before I purchased and I never found that little tidbit you gave me.

Oh well. It's a good thing I wasn't relying on the 2nd display. I barely have any desk space left as it is!

The TD calibrated perfectly and I'm quite happy with it, even with this minor disappointment. Thanks for finding that info for me.
