iOS 6.1 3G coverage really bad

So I had perfect 3G coverage, speeds and a stable connection before

Then I updated my 4S to iOS 6.1

Since then, even though the 3G icon is showing, connection will be inaccessible every other minute. Connection became really unstable. For instance, in games or apps, warning will pop: "Internet connection lost" even though i'm in full coverage area AND 3G icon is showing.

This is really, really bad. iOS 6.1 destroyed my iPhones 3G connectivity. Can't use my 4S like this. Please fix ASAP, is not a user or settings problem, iOS 6.1 broke my phone.

allright people, from my call to Apple Support i just learned that routine procedure is:

1. Backup iPhone

2. Restore to factory settings via iTunes (this will force a new download and verification of iOS 6.1)

3. Then restore Backup

I am doing this now as it is prerequisite to have the iPhone exchanged in case the issue persists.

I will keep you updated on the outcome of this. In the meantime, did you update to iOS 6.1 through iTunes (over USB?) or on the phone itself (over WiFi?)

At first, i did it on the phone itself (over WiFi).

Same Problem here in Germany with Deutsche Telekom, iPhone 4S after update to iOS 6.1.

The iPhone is showing the 3G symbol, but the internet connection don't work. After activating and deactivating the Fly-Mode, the connection is working for a few minutes and then the phone is again offline, but 3g is always shown.

I restored the network Settings, an the phone. I make a restore from backup. But nothing works.

I think it's safe to say that EVERY iPhone 4S not bought in the US has a good chance of being subject to this bug. way to go on testing your firmware worldwide, Apple. this bug would have been discovered within seconds, if they had tested their build worldwide BEFORE rolling out. shame. real shame. this company could really use someone like Steve Jobs. with him gone, everything went to s__t.

i'm experiencing these difficulties in Japan by the way, and in the verge of the update, the ping time to the cell tower dropped from 300ms to 130ms, my guess being that all the updated iPhones drop of the grid, leaving a lot of formerly occupied bandwidth for the taking. way to go, Apple. probably hundreds of thousands of phones wrecked by iOS 6.1

Yep Markus gleiche ( same ) probleme hier in Österreich..

i've been to the apple store today too

they gave me the "it's the carriers problem" excuse too. but really the problems came with iOS 6.1 i reasoned with them, in no way can this issue be the carriers fault if an Apple update causes the issue.

so, because i am still in my warranty, they gave me a shiny new 4S for free, and it is still on iOS 5.0.1, so without all the menacing iOS 6 issues combined, its worth its weight in gold 😀

and its gonna stay this way until THIS issue has been resolved, at least.

downside being, all my data is lost (well not lost, but i cannot use a iOS 6.1 backup), and if I'm not mistaken, with the next iOS update, i can't use that old backup anymore, right? so yeah, data practically lost, i guess, but iOS 5 is golden. has google maps haha ^^

there won't be a fix, because Apple is not aware of the problem

in the Apple store i was told: quite a few people came reporting this issue already, but were sent away with the "it's the carriers problem" excuse.

so there you have it, Apple doesn't acknowledge the issue and blames the carrier. But the carrier really has done squat, it's the iOS 6.1 which has brought the issue...

but yeah, no awareness, no acknowledgement, no fix

so i insisted on a replacement phone because this could take weeks, months...
