    I have the same problem.

Just logged in to see if anyone else had same or if someone had posted a solution.

I see several mentions of the problem, but no solution yet.

Same here; I tried doing a factory reset but no change. Next step is to hook it up to my Mac via mini USB and restore from iTunes, if I can't find a solution elsewhere that's worked.

This appears to be an issue with connection to the iTunes Store after the update - that's why only Movies and Tv (and maybe icloud?) are affected.

One journalist fixed it by logging out of iTunes on the Apple TV and logging back in. I've logged out but am getting an error message logging in that says to try again later. Hopefully this is an issue apple can fix on their end without another update and it will let me log in soon.

Ps - until I can get logged back in, I'm downloading the new episode of Justified to my Mac, and hopefully can play it through the Computers section of the Apple TV instead of streaming it through the Tv section.

Update: I did a factory reset and it now seems to be working fine.

But I see that did not work for Allen above, so may not be a univeral fix.

Definetly seems related to itunes store connectivity.

I had the same problem, and the factory reset did not work. In fact, the factory reset deleted the purple TV button and the orange music button from my main page! I went back to the grey settings button, scrolled down to iTunes Store, and found that I was logged out. I logged back in, and received an error that my account is only for the US store. I am an American living overseas, so I manually changed my location (still under the iTunes Store section) to United States, and logged in using my Apple ID again, and that time it worked! All my main page buttons are back and I can access all my purchased music, TVs, and movies. Good luck everyone!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.  Ended up logging out of my apple ID account.  Of note, when I did I did a quick test and checked out both the movies and tv show options, and it all worked perfectly.  I then logged back in, and now all my purchased and rentals are available which makes sense.  I guess with the update there was some weird bit of trons that required one to log out then back in.  Probably doing a rest in between may not hurt for some.  Thanks again for all the assistance. Cheers.

It looks like there is a Apple doc for this problem here -> Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating

Also, please try restarting after you log out and back in again. It should work normally after log out and restart.

I have signed out of the store and turned on/off home sharing and still no luck. It worked for about 15 minutes and then stopped playing a movie off my win 7 computer. Then same issue. Just spins when starting a movie.

I tried storing back to 5.1.1, but it retored to 5.2!

Any ways to choose an older version to restore to?

    They've ruined this for me!

To update I've restored back to 5.1.1 and it worked flawlessly....almost immedately. Now I have to figure out how to block these devices from updating.

Thanks for the help.  I logged off and tried to log back in and got the 'cannot connect to server' message.  So, I did the factory reset, connected to my wireless network and attempted the login again and it worked.

I logged out of iTunes and back in again.

    This solved it for me.

Everything is back to as it was pre software update.

No matter what I do I can't connect to the iTunes store via Apple TV. It's sad when Netflix is more dependable than Apple.
