I just downloaded 5.2 and both my Apple TV shows and movies won't come up. Hulu and Netflix works fine, but when I go to select a purchased move or show through the apple menu, spiral comes up for about 10 seconds and then brings me back to the main page

This appears to be an issue with connection to the iTunes Store after the update - that's why only Movies and Tv (and maybe icloud?) are affected.

One journalist fixed it by logging out of iTunes on the Apple TV and logging back in. I've logged out but am getting an error message logging in that says to try again later. Hopefully this is an issue apple can fix on their end without another update and it will let me log in soon.

I had the same problem, and the factory reset did not work. In fact, the factory reset deleted the purple TV button and the orange music button from my main page! I went back to the grey settings button, scrolled down to iTunes Store, and found that I was logged out. I logged back in, and received an error that my account is only for the US store. I am an American living overseas, so I manually changed my location (still under the iTunes Store section) to United States, and logged in using my Apple ID again, and that time it worked! All my main page buttons are back and I can access all my purchased music, TVs, and movies. Good luck everyone!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help. Ended up logging out of my apple ID account. Of note, when I did I did a quick test and checked out both the movies and tv show options, and it all worked perfectly. I then logged back in, and now all my purchased and rentals are available which makes sense. I guess with the update there was some weird bit of trons that required one to log out then back in. Probably doing a rest in between may not hurt for some. Thanks again for all the assistance. Cheers.

It looks like there is a Apple doc for this problem here -> Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating

I have signed out of the store and turned on/off home sharing and still no luck. It worked for about 15 minutes and then stopped playing a movie off my win 7 computer. Then same issue. Just spins when starting a movie.

I tried storing back to 5.1.1, but it retored to 5.2!

Any ways to choose an older version to restore to?

They've ruined this for me!

I'm having the same problem. Still. Updated and restored. Turned everything off and on. Signed back into ITunes account after signing out and Apple TV recognizes my library but when I try to load a movie it just spins and spins and spins endlessly and will not actually load. Not sure what else I can possibly do at this point but I'm open to suggestions.

Doesn't seem like Apple has bothered to find a simple fix for this despite what appears to be many many complaints. Really lousy customer service, guess I won't be renting or buying anymore movies off ITunes if I can't play them on my TV.

Apple come on, fix this problem, you owe it to your customers!
