PROBLEM SOLVED.
Windows recognized my ipod but itunes didn't.
I applied all the usual fixes - removed software, made sure associated files were gone, reinstalled software, reset ipod, etc. It took hours and it didn't work.
I then tried updating the ipod drivers but the latest one was already installed. At that time, I noticed that the driver was a Microsoft driver and wondered why it wasn't an Apple driver.
So, I modified my Google search on the internet and came up with this video which proved that my suspicions about the driver were founded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcVruKpZ2Uo. The video tells you how to get the proper driver software and it's a very simple procedure. All is now fine for me. Hope this is your solution too.
In case the video disappears, the Windows 7 steps are as folllows (note: there are various ways to get to Device Manager and the video takes a different route so don't be confused).
Plug your ipod into the USB
Click on Start
Click onControl Panel
Click onHardware and Sound
Click onDevice Manger
Expand Portable Devices
Right-click on Apple ipod
Click on Update Driver Software
Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
Click 'next'
Browse for C:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device support\drivers
Click 'next'
You should get a message saying that the best driver is already installed: MTB USB Device (a bit odd as it wasn't already installed)
Exit and all should be well.
Success! I have been trying to solve this for hours. Vivienne, you have just made my day!
Great instructions, worked perfectly, Thanks so much Vivienne!!
Thanks!!!
