battery icon acting weord

my battery icon shows that my ipod touch is fully charged but then after i played some games the icon showed that i left about 30% of battery.so i leave it at a side and the icon is showing that my ipod still has 90% of battery left after few minutes.what is going on and how can i fixe it?
