Not exactly. The end-of-life extension announcement says that public support will continue through the month of February. There will also be enterprise support beyond that, but it won't be of any help to individual users. There is currently no sign of a release 39, so I doubt that we will see any more after the Apple update, but I suppose there could be an emergency patch made available in that time frame, it warranted.

Again, where is this Apple update? Java 6u38 came out quite a while ago and Apple disregarded it because they are trying to force people onto Lion and Mtn Lion and dumps the responsibility for Java onto Oracle.

Enterprise support means PAID support. I doubt Apple is going to pay to keep Java 6 going and I doubt that Oracle is going to make their own Java 6 for Mac OS X. So, essentially Java 6 is dead.

There's a rumor that it's been posted, but I don't really believe that and can't confirm, so still checking.

Yes, it came out in mid-December, but how did they disregard it? Linc Davis says it's in Developer Preview testing as we speak, but it's all minor bug fixes so what's the rush?

I can't argue that Apple wants to get out from under Java and has publically stated that for several years now. It's turned into a security nightmare, much the way Adobe Flash has, so I don't blame them at all for walking away. I still expect them to fulfill their agreement to continue support of Java 6 through end-of-life.
