Where can I download new java for Mac OS X 10.6.8
It seems like my java dosnt work anymore. I searched for new updates on my macbook, and all updates are now installed - But it still dosnt work.
Where can I download a new java, that works?

At the moment, you can't. You'll have to wait for the next release.
There is no "next release." Java 6 is dead. As of Feb 1, 2013, Oracle will discontinue all support for Java 6. Apple in its infinite wisdom has disabled Java 6 and 7 though a lot of people rely on Java 6 to do their jobs and access Oracle based databases.

That's incorrect. Apple is beta-testing a new version of Java 6.

Yes, but Oracle posted 1.6.0_38 on Dec 11, 2012, so I would expect to see Apple's version in the near future.
So Java 6 is dead or it isn't? Do I need to install the new version of Mac so I can install Java 7 in order for Java to work, or can I keep Java 6?
It's not dead, but will go into retired mode next month, with apparently one last update.
Java 7 appears to have four un-patched vulnerabilities (and is also currently disabled by Apple), so I can't see how you would be better off with it
I'm sorry, what does that mean? Will I be unable to use it? Will it be replaced?
Thanks for letting me know.
You can still download and install Oracles Java 7 and enable it when needed in Firefox, at least. It may be completely blocked by Safari again - I don't have it enabled in Safari anyway (and don't use Safari except for testing purposes).
So, yes, you can still use Java - but not in Safari, apparently.

Not with OS X 10.6.8 he can't.
I've been told by several others that Firefox isn't supporting Java either. Do you know differently?

It means there will be one more update which should allow it to work again, but I see no way that it can be replaced without upgrading your OS X.
Oh - I missed the 10.6.8.
Yeah, I just tried Java using Firefox 18 tonight... you initially get this:
But you can enable the plugin - see http://mzl.la/VYiQ64.

Not exactly. The end-of-life extension announcement says that public support will continue through the month of February. There will also be enterprise support beyond that, but it won't be of any help to individual users. There is currently no sign of a release 39, so I doubt that we will see any more after the Apple update, but I suppose there could be an emergency patch made available in that time frame, it warranted.

Again, where is this Apple update? Java 6u38 came out quite a while ago and Apple disregarded it because they are trying to force people onto Lion and Mtn Lion and dumps the responsibility for Java onto Oracle.
Enterprise support means PAID support. I doubt Apple is going to pay to keep Java 6 going and I doubt that Oracle is going to make their own Java 6 for Mac OS X. So, essentially Java 6 is dead.

There's a rumor that it's been posted, but I don't really believe that and can't confirm, so still checking.

Yes, it came out in mid-December, but how did they disregard it? Linc Davis says it's in Developer Preview testing as we speak, but it's all minor bug fixes so what's the rush?
I can't argue that Apple wants to get out from under Java and has publically stated that for several years now. It's turned into a security nightmare, much the way Adobe Flash has, so I don't blame them at all for walking away. I still expect them to fulfill their agreement to continue support of Java 6 through end-of-life.
So what do we need to do? Upgrade OS X to Mountain lion to get Java 7 or not? I have read reviews of Mountain Lion and it doesn't sound very impressive!
