How to make links open in the correct app instead of in the web browser?

Is there a way to make the iphone open links in their appropriate app instead of in the web browser. It drives me INSANE! I click on a groupon link in my email and I am sent to safari where I get a pop up that says "download the groupon app." Same thing happens for many apps I use everyday. The Iphone isn't smart enough to open the links in the appropriate app?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1

The link has to have a URL scheme that will launch the app, & this requires that the app be installed, or the link won't work at all. So, the ability is there, but it requires the link to have the correct scheme.
