Help, please

Anyone know how to make these weird lines go away?

OS 10.2.8

Macbook pro 2.4 core 2 duo, 8 gb memory

Aperture 3.4.3

Reboot. Launch Aperture. Export Originals to Desktop or somewhere convenient. Open w. Preview (the built-in OS X viewer). Are the bands there?

What adjustment have you applied to the Images that are corrupted?

Are you running out of space on your system drive?

(PS, and relatively unimportant: in the future, put important information in your subject line, e.g.: "Adjusted Images corrupted with bands of color".)

Hey Kirby, sorry about the title.

Yes, I exported them to a folder on the desktop, still the same problems. The weirdest thing is, I shot these a while back (in RAW with a Nikon SLR and they are 5+ mb per photo) and when I edited, cropped, sharpened, pulled shadows, all my basic stuff, it was fine. No bands.

Now recently I go back and try to put them away, I see the bands. The originals, which are tucked away in the "Pictures" folder of my HD are not having this problem.

Thnks for your help. I am thinking it may be something video-card related, as I have 50% of my Hard drive

remaining.

Alec -- a quick clarification. You exported the _Originals_ to the desktop, opened them in Preview, and saw they were corrupt, but :

How are you viewing the Originals?

Have you had any problems with your video card?

Hey Kirby

When I import. I use image capture, I download the images to a named folder on the desktop then drag the files into aperture, This seems strange but I learned on Photo Mechanic and it seems to work well for me.

After they are processed in Aperture, I then re-export to a new file make when I export from Aperture.

The originals are always put away. And stay, unedited, in the Pictures folder.

Video card problems, none that I know of.

Alec,

just some remarks in addition to Kirby's questions: great rectangular blocks of corruption are frequently caused by data corruption of jpeg previews.

For example, these patterns I see in my library are due to defective jpeg originals:

Since your originals are raw and not jpeg, I'd check if the jpeg previews or thumbnails need rebuilding.

"a while back" - did you upgrade Aperture or your raw support since then? If you installed a new raw support, it might help to reprocess the raw images.

"A while back" was about three weeks ago. I think there has been a raw (not necessarily for my cameras (d7000 and d300) but an update nonetheless.

This problem resurfaces with me from time to time.. I think in the past I have fixed it with

a) having less projects in the library (works a little)

b) reinstalling aperture

But have you tried to reprocess the raw? (From the "Photos" menu > Reprocess original)?

And tried the other commands from the same menu? Generate Thumbnails, Update Previews (Hold down the options key, while you select the command to force the regeneration of the previews).

Does it happen to all images, Alec, or only to a few?

Do the same images sometimes look corrupted, and sometimes o.k.?

If it is a problem, that occurs occasionally, but is not reproducable, I'd recommend a hardware check. Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test

It might help to boot once into Safe Mode - this will reset the graphics card. Aperture does not run in Safe Mode, so you have to reboot again. Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode

Kirby, do you have any other suggestions?
