I am interested in replacing my tivo with apple tv. Since the apple tv no longer has a hard drive is this possible. I also would like to have the ability to watch the recorded shows via the internet on my phone or ipad.

Apple TV allows you to rent, purchase and watch movies and shows from iTunes. It can lso use a few built in apps such as you tube and airplay others from iPad etc. It cannot record commercial TV etc as you seem to be wanting it to. If you have the newer hardware you can mirror your device or Mac to apple TV too. Check what apple TV can do and see what your needs are before you get it, I think you may have expectations it won't deliver.
