movie audio on HDTV from older MacBook Pro.

Movie audio on HDTV from older MacBookPro. I can play a DVD on my TV from my MAC using a HDMI cord but the audio comes from the computer speakers, not the TV speakers. Is there a way to play the movie audio on the TV while the video is playing or do I need separate speakers? The computer speakers are not loud enough.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Core 2 Duo), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

If audio through HDMI is supported for the devices you would need to follow these steps.

1. Click the  in the upper left.

2. Click System Preferences

3. Click Sound under the Hardware section

4. Click the Output tab

5. Select the preferred audio output. Your TV's speakers should show up here if it is supported through HDMI
