In Aperture 3 there is no built-in lens correction. If you need that feature you need an external editor (e.g. Photoshop) or a plug-in.

There isn't any Lens Correction button in Aperture, sorry.

For lens correction set up an external editor or a plug-in, like PTLens.

Are you sure that Aperture does not do any lens correction from the RAW data?

I'm asking because I'm hoping for an update to come soon and fix my issue with my Sony 16-50mm lens.

This article makes me think that once Apple releases the correct Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update, it will work. Unfortunately, this artcile was last modified in January 2014, and the last update is from December 2013.

I tried the PTLens plug-in, and I must say that I don't like it. The fact that you need to export your picture in TIFF format first before you can do anything with it is really annoying.

There are no controls for manual correction, though.

But the Digital Camera RAW update 5.0.3 fixed an issue that I believe appeared with DCRU 5.0.2:

    • Resolve an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images

Aperture absolutely applies corrections to micro 4/3 lenses including distortion and chromatic aberration. This is obvious when comparing its output to raw converters that don't, such as Capture One Pro 7.

It seems like Aperture only applies very basic corrections. DxO Optics Pro cleans up the images much more. I'd love to see Apple buy DxO and drop their raw engine into Aperture…

My mistake : I had downloaded this versino which is from Jan 2014, but it does not work with my lens.

I hope next one will, and that it will come soon...

Note the DSC-RX100 has a fixed lens. Aperture has not yet supported lens correction for interchangeable lenses.

    5.0.4 does not work either.

Sorry, I went a bit fast when posting this.

I meant version 5.0.4 doesn't seem to contain the profile for my Sony 16-50mm lens, but I'll try to reprocess my photos when I get home, just in case...

Note that Aperture doesn't include lens correction along the lines of what Lightroom and DXO have. I think it only works for a very few specific cameras, perhaps with fixed (non-removable) lenses. There's no option to correct Nikon, Canon, or other lenses, for example.

No, but there was a minimum correction, for instance with the Sony 18-55mm Lens that came with my NEX-5.

I wish there would have been the same with the new lens, since it makes a very big difference, to the point that shooting at 16mm makes the picture useless, unless it's the effect you're after.

I'm now considering getting DXO actually, but it really is a shame that Aperture does neither include a minimum correction, nor offer lens correction settings. It makes it as "not pro" as iPhoto somehow...
